Alex + Rachel | Intimate Richmond Engagement Session | Main Street Station | Richmond Wedding Photographer

Tis’ the season for engagement sessions…. and weddings! The weather is FINALLY warm, sun is shining and golden hour is AHH-MAZING. Well, most days! Rachel and Alex live up north so we really just had to plan and hope for amazing weather during their trip to Virginia. It poured. It poured buckets but the amazing thing about Richmond is that there's always a gorgeous plan B.

Special shout out to the Main Street train station for allowing us to shoot in their GORGEOUS building. Towards the end of our session, the rain cleared and the sun came out. HA! Life! We made the most of our time together and of course snagged photos outside on the way to our cars.

Meeting Rachel and Alex in person felt like meeting up with old friends. They booked me as their wedding photographer last fall so we’ve had time to chat many times, bond over Harry Potter, Game of Thrones, art and music.

Ahead of time I send a questionnaire to my couples to get to know them even more before their engagement session. I learned that Rachel and Alex love to snuggle (that was definitely true), they prefer to be photographed where they feel alone and something they always look forward to is that long hug after a long day. Being around them all of this was felt. The intimacy, comfort and admiration they have for each other shows through every image. It wasn’t forced, they were just able to be themselves and luckily for us, the station was empty! YAY!

Another question I ask is if the couple has any song that describes their relationship or that they just REALLY enjoy together. Rachel said La Bicicleta by Carlos Vives and Shakira. I played this song during the session and the smile on Alex’s face told me IT’S ABOUT TO GO DOWN and down it went. They bust out their salsa moves and all I could do was cheer “YASSSSSSSS”. We had so much fun and as if I wasn’t already stoked for their fall wedding, my level of excitement shot through the roof!

Wes + Sarah | Intimate Backyard Wedding | Richmond Wedding Photographer | Richmond, Va.

This past weekend I went to Richmond, Virginia to capture Wes and Sarah’s intimate backyard wedding. They couldn’t think of a more perfect place to celebrate their big day than at Sarah’s parents gorgeous home where her and close friends and family share many memories.

The day was photographed completely unprompted and unposed. They wanted genuine moments documented. So I just floated around and documented all of the love I saw.

There was a first look and thank goodness I stay ready for the moments because like I said, it was unannounced and not staged at all. Documentary goodness.

It was pouring rain all morning and afternoon up until five minutes before the ceremony began. TALK ABOUT GOOD LUCK ON A WEDDING DAY!!! Because the rain stopped, the ceremony was able to take place in the backyard. YAY!

A guitarist played Ave Maria as Sarah walked down her aisle and the smile and look of joy on Wes' face flowed like energy through the crowd. The ceremony was short, intimate and meaningful. Close family members read some words before an important vow was read. That vow was read by Sarah to Wes’ daughter. Promises were made like a pantry forever stocked with Mac and cheese and unconditional love.

When the ceremony ended, Sarah and Wes met their super excited friends and family with tons of hugs and laughter.

When I say unposed, there wasn’t even a time blocked off for couples portraits. Sarah’s only request was that I photograph her veil that wrapped around her bouquet. It is vintage lace that has been passed down five generations. WOW!!

Seeing kids at wedding makes me so happy. They’re unpredictable and truly live in the moment which makes for great candids.

After cake and speeches, everyone gathered outside with sparklers for Sarah and Wes’ exit. They left their celebration in a 1950s vintage Rolls Royce because style.

I feel so honored with every opportunity i’m given to capture sacred moments between people. Sarah and Wes’ wedding had one focus and that was - real moments.

Hunter + Kristin | Richmond Engagement Session | Richmond Wedding Photographer

Just a few weeks ago, I got to spend the afternoon hanging out with and photographing Hunter and Kristin with their two entertaining pups - Quincy and Hank, in their cozy, stylish Richmond home.

After weeks of rainy, cold weather, we got so lucky with a warm, sunny day for their engagement session. The weather was too great to have the whole session indoors so we took off to Libby Hill park and Kristin rocked this amazing rust colored velvet wrap dress. Keep scrolling to see more of this gorgeous couple, their sweet pups and just how beautiful Richmond is.

Kristin and Hunter will be exchanging vows this summer at the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden and I couldn’t think of a more perfect place for them.

Kristina + Josh | Intimate Downtown Richmond Wedding | Hilton Downtown Richmond | Richmond Canal Walk | Wong Gonzalez | Richmond Wedding Photographer

This past winter I photographed Kristina and Josh’s intimate downtown wedding. They blocked off half of their timeline to spend with me, around Richmond making portraits. We went to one of my favorite spots in Richmond, the Canal Walk mural gallery then took portraits on our walk to Wong Gonzalez where their friends and family waited.

Following their short nuptials a TACO BUFFET and Sugar Shack donuts were served. Y'all!!!! It’s like a dream buffet.

I can’t express how much I just love to see couples doing what makes them happy and customizing their day to fit who they are. Kristina and Josh were playful, romantic and truly just down to earth. Their small ceremony, amazing food choices and location were all a reflection of that.

Angela + Jason | Richmond Engagement Session | Richmond Canal Walk

These two are getting married this fall in Norfolk, Virginia and I am SO stoked. After meeting Angela, her and I began discovering that we are pretty much internet twins, soul sisters, you know the same person; same house slippers and all. So, yes, I was so excited to finally meet her and Jason in person. We started the session at the Richmond Canal Walk mural gallery and just adventured together until the sun set.

Shout out to the avocado tent for taking us to the next scene.

All smiles and giggles before we discovered a tragedy under Jason’s shoe.

Being around Angela and Jason, their friendship was undeniable. They loved to joke and their was a level of comfort that made it so easy to want to be their best friend. I wanted to make sure that I captured that in their engagement session

Storytelling Boudoir Photographer | Downtown Richmond | Casey | Sessions for the Soul

Sessions for the soul are sessions dedicated to YOU. It is such an honor to be trusted to tell your story and capture photographs that are emotive, raw and represent you. I had such an amazing time photographing Casey today in their Richmond home. Knowing Casey personally, they’re my sibling, when I see these photos, I see their soul, the places they’ve gone and …I see growth.

"You carry so much love in your heart. Give some to yourself."

Rob + Lydia | Rooftop Wedding | The Graduate | Richmond Wedding

Spontaneous decision to say “I do” on a rooftop?!? Hell yeah!! I was so excited when I first chatted with Lydia two weeks before the wedding haha. Everything worked out perfectly that I would get to capture their intimate and fun wedding. Lydia and Rob were surrounded by their closest friends and family who traveled from as far as Hawaii and the Phillipines to be with them! Their simple ceremony took place on the rooftop at The Graduate hotel which gave us Richmond city views. As family and friends made their way up, we gathered around to watch Rob and Lydia get married and exchange ring pops. Hahah! Any Parks and Rec fans?! Once the ceremony was over, we took the elevator down to the lobby where dinner, dancing and drinks happened! While it was a short celebration it was filled with lots of love, sooo much laughing and happy tears.

Anna + Dalton | Engagement Session | Pleasure House Point | Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer

I met Anna, Dalton and their pup, Pyro at Pleasure House Point for their engagement session. The day couldn't have been any more perfect for several reasons: the light was just gorgeous, the weather was a perfect 78 degrees with a cool breeze, the water was warm, Anna and Dalton were as sweet as can be, they were down for an adventure and their pup was SOOO GOOD!! Pyro was AMAZING! Many times during our session he would sit by my foot while I photographed his parents. Just so incredibly warm and sweet.

Anna and I chatted a ton before their session which was great because not only did I feel like I already knew her when I saw her in person but we were able to really put together a session that captured everything she wanted ~ ROMANCE + ADVENTURE.

Our session began in the most amazing golden light and ended with them doing what they love to do most: hangout, share some beers, hiking and camping!

Franz Family | In-Home Family Session | Seaford, Va.

While most of my sessions take place outdoors, I absolutely love those times I get in-home sessions, too! Especially when the summer temps reach 90+ degrees.  With that being said it was SO awesome to be welcomed into the Franz family's gorgeous home and get to know them. Our time from beginning to end flowed effortlessly as the children guided the session.  We first hung out in the living room where sweet little princess Liv showed me a book that she was really proud of... as well as her favorite dolls and toys. Then we made our way to her room for more toys, tiaras and dolls and wrapped up our time in baby Julian's nursery.  I enjoyed every minute with the Franz family.  They are so incredibly sweet and welcoming.  Along with natural light, love also radiated through their home.
