Melanie + Johnathan | National Museum of the Marine Corps | Small Virginia Wedding | Triangle, Virginia | Virginia Wedding Photographer

It is officially wedding season for this gal and my gosh what a perfect start to the season Melanie and Johnathan’s wedding was. The weeks leading up to the wedding, I had many emails, phone calls and texts with Melanie and Johnathan between their busy schedules. Melanie is a flight attendant and Johnathan is a Marine, so having friends and family travel from all over the world for them was a big deal.

I met Melanie at the hotel she was getting ready at and immediately was welcomed by her and her bridesmaids. Melanie’s bridesmaids were so happy and proud to be apart of her day that anything I needed, they were happy to assist. They wanted to be involved and I couldn’t have been happier to have been in their presence.

The wedding took place at the National Museum of the Marine Corps. This was my first time at the museum and I really had no idea what to expect other than the research I had gathered online. UH WOW! The architect, the beautifully maintained grounds and the space. It was more than I could have imagined. Located, tucked in the woods, near the museum was a small chapel where their ceremony was held. Everything felt so intimate, from the small guest count, to the chapel, all the way to the people who were there to celebrate. Their was a sense of closeness and everyone came to have a good time.

I couldn’t be happier for Melanie and Johnathan. Getting to know them over the past few months made it that much more special to meet them on their wedding day. Johnathan wanted nothing more than to make sure Melanie was both happy and comfortable and it showed.

Keep scrolling for happiness, family, fun and Irish dancing.

Can we talk about how stunning this gown is? Melanie’s family is from Spain which had an influence on her gown and custom made veil that came all the way from Spain.

Casey | In-Home Birth | Black and White Documentary Photography | Suffolk, Virginia

I’m pretty sure that every photographer has a photography bucket list. Something on my list was to document a birth. In-home, hospital, didn’t care. Documentary photography is something i’m passionate about and what better way to experience that than with a birth. Birth photography is something that was new to me. I didn't know truly what to expect I just knew that being on call meant, at any time, anywhere, I’d have to stop what i’m doing, grab my packed up camera bag and haul my ass over. When I received the text that it was time, my adrenaline started pumping, I quickly took an exit on the interstate and made a U-turn to head to Suffolk.

When I arrived midwives greeted me as they took notes and I just started documenting. About an hour passed when we heard “she’s coming” and it all happened. So quickly. So beautifully. A baby girl was born.

I don’t think I can ever forget this experience. I’m in awe of the strength women have. As a woman who’s had children herself, I felt her pain, I felt the love and I wanted to document just that.

Welcome to the world, sweet girl, Talullah Moon.

Children's Session | Fort Monroe Beach | Hampton Roads Lifestyle Photographer

I always love photographing kids being kids! They go by their own rules, they act more freely and if they're into the environment, they really let go! The Pierre girls were everything and more. It was a bit of a chilly day but they went straight for the water and watching them gave me so much life. Hearing them laugh and almost get taken out by waves yet still have the biggest smile on their faces was refreshing and inspiring.

True story- when I lack inspiration or feel like I'm in a rut, I photograph my kids. Every time, I learn a new way that I want to capture raw connection. They fill me with inspiration, remind me to let go and most importantly be free!

Anna + Dalton | Engagement Session | Pleasure House Point | Virginia Beach Wedding Photographer

I met Anna, Dalton and their pup, Pyro at Pleasure House Point for their engagement session. The day couldn't have been any more perfect for several reasons: the light was just gorgeous, the weather was a perfect 78 degrees with a cool breeze, the water was warm, Anna and Dalton were as sweet as can be, they were down for an adventure and their pup was SOOO GOOD!! Pyro was AMAZING! Many times during our session he would sit by my foot while I photographed his parents. Just so incredibly warm and sweet.

Anna and I chatted a ton before their session which was great because not only did I feel like I already knew her when I saw her in person but we were able to really put together a session that captured everything she wanted ~ ROMANCE + ADVENTURE.

Our session began in the most amazing golden light and ended with them doing what they love to do most: hangout, share some beers, hiking and camping!

Franz Family | In-Home Family Session | Seaford, Va.

While most of my sessions take place outdoors, I absolutely love those times I get in-home sessions, too! Especially when the summer temps reach 90+ degrees.  With that being said it was SO awesome to be welcomed into the Franz family's gorgeous home and get to know them. Our time from beginning to end flowed effortlessly as the children guided the session.  We first hung out in the living room where sweet little princess Liv showed me a book that she was really proud of... as well as her favorite dolls and toys. Then we made our way to her room for more toys, tiaras and dolls and wrapped up our time in baby Julian's nursery.  I enjoyed every minute with the Franz family.  They are so incredibly sweet and welcoming.  Along with natural light, love also radiated through their home.

Tommy Joe + Stephanie | Forest Hill Park | Richmond, VA | Engagement Session

This weekend I had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Joe & Stephanie.  I loved hearing about their story as we strolled through Forest Hill park.  These two love birds met while studying abroad in Copenhagen! UMMM ... COOLLLL!!! Copenhagen is somewhere I've always wanted to go so this was exciting for me.

Their proposal story - "After four years together, we decided in the fall of 2017 to get married. Tommy Joe proposed at the Devils Backbone Base Camp in Roseland, VA, where we attend the Hoopla Music festival every year. The festival is a celebration of craft beer, great music, supporting local businesses, environmental stewardship, and contributing to the local food pantry- all things that are of interest and importance to us. It was a beautiful and special place to commit to spending the rest of our lives together."

Their love was so natural! They joked around and really used our time together to live in the moment.

Watkins + Carmen | Fort Monroe | Engagement Session

Carmen and Watkins entered my engagement giveaway earlier this year and I couldn't be more happier that they were selected! Reading about their love story made me swoon.  They had their first date at a Vance Joy concert and he is one of my favorite artists so that already made them cool! Following that date, Watkins took Carmen flying over the Outer Banks where he calls "home". Yeah, I know - SWEET! They were just as sweet in person!  Watkins did not hold back on his love for Carmen.  I lightly directed them and they made every prompt special on their own.  While it was a bit chilly outside, the clouds and sun made up for it in many ways.

Family Session | Mentoring Session | Fort Pierce, FL.

For spring break I packed up my family and we road tripped a long way south to Fort Pierce, Florida!  It wasn't just any ole trip!  I went to be mentored by my photography inspiration and idol, Twyla Jones.  I still can't believe that it happened and that she was just as amazing in person as she is with her online presence.  Finding a mentor was so important to me to continue my growth and education to better serve my clients.  This mentorship didn't disappoint and I can't help but feel so inspired and grateful for the experience.

On day two of my mentorship, Twyla arranged a gorgeous family session at Fort Pierce Inlet State Park.  She had the sweetest family model for us and provided some amazing outfits.  It took place at golden hour and didn't end until the park closed.  Following our session we all went out, model family and all, for a sushi feast.  I'm still on cloud nine from my trip and looking at these photos, I'm sure you'll understand why.
